CST 489/499 - Module 5
What did I learn in the fifth week of CST 489/499?
This week again was about getting everything in place and officially starting on the project, as we needed to align our expectations on implementation with our mentor, given how many questions he wanted to ask on it. Furthermore, this week was mostly about giving an update as far as what we have been doing so far with our mentor through a journal update. In the end, our initial start on this project felt a bit slow, as we needed to wait on our mentors requirements beyond what he provided as a task, which ended up being a bit more restrained for the setup as the mentor agreed with the following for my plan in implementing the notifications feature:
- Build a shared notification model and API.
- Add in-app notifications for events such as:
- New open mics in a user’s area.
- New messages received.
- Show changes or cancellations.
- Relevant registration and account activity.
- Add the bell icon, notification list, unread count, read actions, and links to the relevant pages.
- Keep the existing Resend email notifications and flows unchanged.
- Add SMS as an optional, user-controlled channel with phone verification, rate limits, and unsubscribe handling.
- Leave mobile push notifications as a later channel using the same backend notification model.
