CST329 - Module 1

What did I learn in the first week of CST329?

This is the second to last course before the capstone project officially begins.

This module went over three chapters of "A Concise Introduction to Logic", which built up our initial understanding and basics of propositional logic. Chapter 1 went over declarative sentences (a statement that can be either true or false), atomic sentences (a sentence that doesn't have an operator that creates two sentences or derives a negation), and the distinction between syntax and semantics. Chapter 2 introduced conditional and negation symbols for an english sentence being translated into logic language. We went over a thorough reading on all aspects that determined the overall structure and reasoning behind logic language aspects through P->Q by using the conditional's truth table, while practicing english phrasings into formal notation or double negation. Finally, chapter 3 covered arguments, validity, and soundness, which was mostly on how to determine whether throughout all the work done by using chapters 1-2 that everything is valid through the truth table.

Across all three chapters, I worked through the Week 1 practice problem set and homework, translating English sentences into logical notation, building translation keys, evaluating truth values, and checking argument validity with truth tables.
