CST311 - Module 5 - FINAL
What did I learn in the seventh/eighth week of CST311?
This week is the final module which combined a programming assignment, final exam, and the final chapter of the course. Basically, this module explored the control plane of the network layer, which governed how packets were getting routed across networks. The control plane is used to manage network-wide routing decisions, introducing per-router control and logically centralized control for two main approaches on how to maintain a router. Furthermore, the module explained in detail on how intra and inter domain routing worked, while also going over protocols like BGP and introducing the internet control message protocol for diagnostics. In the end, this module was mostly a conclusion on the network layer and its significance towards networks in general.
The programming assignment for this week, which is in the eighth week this time, is about subnet addressing. Basically, this assignment focused on applying subnetting concepts to design and analyze IP networks, which required the calculation of subnet addresses, the allocation of IP ranges, and the validation of network configurations. The goal of the assignment was to reinforce our understanding of IP addressing, subnet boundaries, and logical segmentation to catalyze our understanding of prior learning materials.
This is the end of this course, and I can't wait for the next one.
