CST311 - Module 3
What did I learn in the third/fourth week of CST311?
This week was combined due to how the programming assignments were distributed to take up an entire week, as there are three of them in total. Therefore, this is a combined module that went over transport layers. Basically, a transport layer provides communication between application processes that are running on different hosts. Furthermore, the module introduced key services such as multiplexing, demultiplexing, data transfer, flow control, and congestion control. The module also went over how the sender breaks application messages into segments based on UDP and TCP, which then reassembles them through the receiver, while explaining further on how transport protocols using port numbers direct traffic to the correct application. In the end, there were many visual analogies and layered protocol breakdowns that clarified how the transport layer interacts with the network and application layers.
The other reason for why I would think this week was combined was due to our first exam. Although, I didn't do really well on it given that I studied other aspects besides the video tutorials provided in the module. I can't say I'm fully at fault for doing somewhat poorly on that exam, as the video tutorials were over a google slide that I can personally view and use on the exam. In the end, I'm going to rectify that by using the videos and a few other sources provided to get a better idea on how to solve certain questions.
