CST311 - Module 1
What did I learn in the first week of CST311?
This module introduced the foundational concepts of computer networks. Basically, it went over what the internet was and the role that protocols played in enabling communication between devices. It further explored the network edge, access networks, and physical media, which highlighted the differences between packet and circuit switching. Furthermore, the module covered performance metrics such as loss, delay, and throughput, while also introducing basic security concerns related to network vulnerabilities. In the end, the module presented the layered architecture of network protocols, service models, social networks, and transportation infrastructures to provide students a well displayed visual and description on networks.
Another thing we did this week other than learn about networks through the introduction pdf, was by using Wireshark and VirtualBox for simple implementations to get the hang of the applications. I found Wireshark to be the most interesting app as you can look into what is happening on the network you are currently on to see what is being looked up.
