Week 1: Module 1
This week is the official start of the CSUMB Computer Science Program.
Before beginning this week, everyone was required to read module 1's intro, lecture and writing lab materials. As I went through each of them, I came to understand what was expected of us when dealing with our writing lab assignment for an industrial analysis outline through a video tutorial, rubric and how to cite with APA, while also learning about CSUMB's history, course expectations, faculty list, learning outcomes and how to successfully learn online.
After going through the course materials listed and getting a brief understanding on the information provided, I officially began the course assignments, which started out with taking quizzes for the material that was given prior. The first quiz was over the intro to CSUMB, I missed the 50/50 question over the official code for SCD due to misinterpreting what that question really meant. The second quiz was easier given that we only needed to listen to a video; However, I missed one of the multiple-choice questions because I thought that picking it would be redundant when the topic is repeated within the quiz. The last quiz was over the writing lab material, which I got full points on.
The next assignments after the quizzes were team meetings, which I found somewhat nerve wracking due to assigning roles and having everyone participate. Nevertheless, everyone in the group managed to pull together the dates we are going to be meeting, roles and group rules, while also setting a meeting time with the instructors on the 16th of January. So far, my group has handled everything thrown at us throughout this week and the introduction module, which was about creating a collective resume (from module 0 and is down below) that got graded with full marks.
The next tasks that I found easy to accomplish were a collaboration and connecting with faculty and class. The assignment dealing with collaboration wasn't actually dealing with working with a team but simply understanding our current knowledge, social interactions and whether we struggle to understand those around us. It first started with a pre-test going over what we currently understood about interacting with others and how we would otherwise respond, while the first module only had one page going over a virtual interaction, as you took on the role of a group member witnessing a groups interaction. On the other hand, the connecting with faculty and class was more in line with creating a biography, picture profile, pronoun preference, introduction video and providing ways to connect with others through google chat and LinkedIn.
The final assignment and the hardest, was the Industry Analysis Outline. I somewhat struggled a lot longer than I anticipated, as I was trying to look up academic references that were primary and secondary. There wasn't really a way to understand whether a source was good or bad, unless you actively researched which websites are usable by academic standards. Nevertheless, I managed to fill out the requirement for the reference page on the outline and for the draft next week.
In the end, I managed to complete everything within module 1. I'm feeling pretty good with what I have accomplished and if I require any assistance I know where to look, thus I got through week 1 and am looking forward to what is to come next.
